About Quartz
Quartz is a mineral in by nature. The scale of MOH (hardness measurement) is 7.0. On the scale, granite is scored 6. Quartz (as a mineral) occurs in clusters, but you can not make huge blocks of stone like a rock. This makes it unacceptable for use in countertops or other broad slab applications in its natural form. This means that it needs to be transformed into another form to make it functional in such applications, i.e. engineered rock.
A mixture of quartz aggregate chips, a resin binder (typically unsaturated polyester), pigments and additives (such as mirror flakes, glass chips) is created in engineered quartz stone (a.k.a. reconstituted or reconstituted rock).
